Code of Conduct

Both in-person and virtual. Please be aware that we also expect participants of our Meetups e.g. Food in the City or educational tours at one of the Kiezfarms to adhere to an equivalent standard of behavior.

The goal of our meetups and tour events is to create a safe environment for the free flow of ideas so we can push urban farming forward. We expect everyone at the event to show respect for the person, if not the ideas, and conduct themselves in a respectful and professional manner while at the event.

By attending a Farmlyplace meetup or tour event, you agree to abide by and support this Code of Conduct and any venue safety rules as might be additionally shared. These terms apply equally to delegates, sponsors, event crew, speakers, and any other officially associated personnel.

Bottomline

If you’re a jerk you will be removed from the event you are attending and banned from future events.

If you feel unsafe

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a member of event staff immediately.

What creates an unsafe environment?

• An unsafe environment occurs when someone or group of people undertake verbal or physical harassment of another person or group of people.
• In general, prohibited conduct includes any abusive conduct that has the purpose or effect of unreasonably interfering with another person’s ability to enjoy and participate in the event, including social events.

Prohibited conduct includes, but is not limited to:

• Yelling at or threatening speakers or attendees, or any significantly disruptive conduct. By way of example, repeated interruption of a speaker by an attendee is prohibited.
• Harassment based on race, age, gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, religion (or lack thereof) or any other protected group status, as provided by local, state, or federal law. By way of example, abusive conduct directed at someone because of their race is prohibited.
• Physical / sexual harassment such as deliberate intimidation, violence, stalking, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention. By way of example, unwelcome sexual attention, stalking, and physical contact such as pinching, grabbing, or groping are prohibited.
• Critical examination of beliefs, including critical commentary on another person’s views, does not, by itself, constitute hostile conduct or harassment. One of the underlying rationales of this policy is to promote the free exchange of ideas, not to inhibit it.

Addressing an unsafe environment

If a participant engages in behavior or communication that is deemed unsafe by the event organizers, we may take any action we deem appropriate, from warning the offender to immediately expelling the offender with no refund.

Participants asked to stop any unsafe behavior are expected to comply immediately. There is zero tolerance of any physical harassment.

Duty of Care

The organizers do not hereby assume the duty to control or mitigate the behavior of event attendees toward other attendees, except to the minimum extent required by EU, German, and local law, if such a minimum requirement exists. No cause of action may be based upon any duty an attendee believes may be established herein by the organizers. All venues selected for the event are run by professional event staff who may also be called upon for support as needed and will serve as escalation point / additional support for the event crew as required.
