Food in the City wants to go Open AIR. Why? We want to facilitate the discussion on food traceability and food-miles along the supply (block)chain. And, because it matters.
The ability to track any food through all stages of production is paramount in recent activities for digitalization. Decentralized Ledgers with new forms of smart contracts and consensus algorithms will enable food traceability in smart farming.
Firstly, discuss with players from the Blockchain community why local currencies, ledger, smart contracts are related to food. Secondly, its not only about food systems in our cities. In short, food traceability in times of distributed ledgers, should mean that trustful food miles are on our fingertips everywhere. Moreover, in an agriculture supply chain, a transaction essentially describes the four elements, origin, destination, value and date.
Further, you could for example associate a token of value to each head of lettuce. You simply track the seeds, seedlings, transplantation, work, harvest and consumption of those tokens in a ledger. Now you know why we need a distributed ledger to achieve food traceability? If not, join the Food in the City Open AIR, to learn and discuss with us.
