Farmlyplace’s “Food in the City” meetup 2021 – virtually until further notice – every last Wednesday of the month!

Urban farming and thinking cradle-to-cradle

This Food in the City panel event will discuss how urban farming can be seen from a circular perspective. Key discussion topics are: 

  • The implications of a circular economy transition on urban farming initiatives, How much cradle-to-cradle is realistic?
  • Policies and agreements (including local authorities and programs) that can play a role in promoting urban farming to the circular economy
  • Current material flows of critical raw materials/waste for urban farming, and the impact of covid-19
  • Local trade in secondary raw materials and recyclables and the need for a policy coherence, and definitions, standards, and certification
  • The way forward for cooperation on urban farming, circular economy and policies to ensure the mutual supportiveness of these areas for smart cities with an accelerated transition

The event will have the participation of the recent project CUBES Circle from the Humboldt Universität Berlin; Department for Agrarökonomie, Fachgebiet Agrar- und Ernährungspolitik.
